Kossuth Regional Health Center (KRHC) is pleased to announce a new partnership with Northwest Iowa Surgeons, bringing expanded access to general surgery services for patients across Kossuth County and the surrounding region. Beginning mid-August, surgeons from the Spencer-based practice will begin seeing patients in the KRHC Specialty Clinic, with surgical procedures expected to begin in September.
Under the partnership, surgeons from Northwest Iowa Surgeons will hold clinic hours at KRHC two days per week. As schedules rotate, all five surgeons from the practice will provide care to patients in Algona and the surrounding communities.
“We are excited to welcome Northwest Iowa Surgeons to Kossuth Regional Health Center,” said Allie Opheim, Clinic Director at KRHC. “Providing more specialty care is an important part of our commitment to the communities we serve. This partnership expands access to high-quality surgical care while helping patients avoid unnecessary travel for consultations, treatment, and follow-up appointments.”
Established in 1970, Northwest Iowa Surgeons has built a reputation for delivering quality, compassionate surgical care throughout Northwest Iowa. The practice’s team of board-certified surgeons provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient surgical services and currently serves multiple hospitals and clinic locations across the region.
The surgeon team includes:
- Dr. Patrick J. Slattery
- Dr. Jeffre D. Helmink
- Dr. Jason R. Keonin
- Dr. Jaren H. Ricker
- Dr. Benjamin Branigan
All specialize in general surgery and bring extensive experience caring for patients throughout Northwest Iowa.
“We’re very excited to expand our surgical services to Algona and the surrounding communities,” said Dr. Jason Keonin. “It’s exciting to see KRHC launching a robotic surgery program. We believe robotic surgery will enhance the care we’re able to provide by offering patients access to advanced, minimally invasive surgical techniques close to home.”
Patients interested in scheduling an appointment with Northwest Iowa Surgeons at KRHC will need a referral from their healthcare provider. KRHC also wishes to clarify that Dr. Owen will continue to serve as the hospital’s primary physician for endoscopy services, including colonoscopies.
“This collaboration reflects our ongoing commitment to ensuring patients have access to exceptional healthcare services close to home,” said Dar Elbert, KRHC CEO. “We look forward to introducing the Northwest Iowa Surgeons team to our community and working together to enhance surgical care for the patients we serve.”
