What can a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) do for you?

Can A Psychologist Prescribe Medications?

A psychologist can make referrals and work collaboratively with prescribing providers, such as family doctors or psychiatric nurse practitioners, to communicate a patient’s diagnosis and goals.

Can A PMHNP Prescribe Medications?

Yes, PMHNPs prescribe a wide array of medications, specifically those that are effective for mental health and substance use problems. We use medications in combination with other treatment methods in order to provide the best results, including laboratory monitoring, lifestyle changes, education and psychotherapy.

What Can I Expect At My First Visit?

Patients can expect courteous and compassionate care from the first visit. The psychologist will take time to get to know your needs and challenges, as well as some personal history. Expect to leave with a personalized plan for continued care, created with your input and agreement.

What Can I Expect At My First Visit with PMHNP?

You can expect to be welcomed by friendly staff at your first visit. The goal of the visit is to get to know you and ensure that your needs are understood.
