Foundation’s 22nd Annual Legacy Ball a Success

Honorary Chair Bob Dotston for Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, IA

Guests enjoyed a whimsical celebration at the Kossuth Regional Health Center Foundation’s annual Legacy Ball on November 2, with over 200 guests enjoying the “Legacy” theme featuring a history of healthcare in honor of the Foundation’s 35th anniversary. The Foundation raised a record-breaking $100,000 for the endowment fund, with the help of a successful silent auction and a generous group of event sponsors.

The silent auction itself brought $11,925 to the grand total, with popular items ranging from dinner parties to weekend trips, musical tickets, home décor, and several enticing food and beverage packages.

The Honorary Chair of the night was Bob Dotson, who has supported healthcare in Kossuth County for over 50 years. Bob first served as a member of the Algona Medical Group in the early 1970s helping to recruit doctors and raise funds. He then became a Board Member for Kossuth County Hospital in 1974 and later joined the KRHC Foundation Board in the early 90s.

KRHC Chief Executive Officer, Dar Elbert introduced the “Legacy Legend,” celebrating the large influence he has had on the Hospital and community over the years. Elbert also recognized the large impact the Board of Trustees, providers, hospital staff, and Foundation supporters all have in making Kossuth Regional Health Center a wonderful place to receive care. She also thanked the donors for their continued support over the years.

Legacy Legend, Bob Dotson highlighted the 3 legs that make a thriving community: manufacturing, education, and healthcare.

“Healthcare is vital to keeping our community thriving,” said Dotson. “Without the local citizens giving of their time and treasure, including you in this room, Kossuth Regional Health Center would not be where it is today.”

Dotson also emphasized the important role the Foundation plays in supporting healthcare in the community.

“This Foundation keeps the hospital functioning and successful,” he said. “If you walk through the facility, it is impossible not to see the many areas the Foundation has touched and helped improve.”

The Legacy Ball has become a fall tradition for donors and Foundation supporters, who enjoy an elegant evening at Columbia Hall while contributing to the endowment fund.

“Our Foundation’s endowment fund offers a way for us to improve health care in Kossuth County by supporting construction projects, equipment needs, or technology upgrades related to patient care.  Only the interest from the endowment is utilized, and it is dedicated to where the need is the greatest,” said Grandgenett-Besch.  “Thank you to all who contributed to this record-breaking year and to those who continue to support the Foundation.”

The Legacy Ball is traditionally held the first Saturday in November each year.  Anyone is welcome to attend the event, sponsor or donate auction items. For more information about ways to give to the KRHC Foundation including Legacy Ball, contact Nancy Grandgenett-Besch at 515-295-4582.
